JAMES DOUGLAS BROWN Peacefully on Monday, April 4, 2011 at the Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, Jim Brown passed away at the age of 65. He was predeceased by his father, Jim and his mother, Jean. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 30 years, Teddi (nee Hatch) and his son, Garth. Jim was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on October 6, 1945 and grew up in Selkirk. A keen competitor, Jim loved many sporting events. As a young boy, he could be found at the Selkirk Golf and Country Club day or night. He often liked to relate how he golfed by flashlight as a pre-teenager. He won many tournaments, both individually and as a team member. His hole-in-one awards were a source of pride for him. He continued to golf throughout his life and was a member at the Rossmere Country Club for several years. Jim was also a big hockey enthusiast. Growing up, he played hockey, either shinny on the corner or organized with a team. He was a terrific skater and often said that if he had had the size, he would have liked to try to play professionally. Gordie Howe was his hero! Later on, Jim spent a lot of good years ten-pin bowling at Chateau Lanes with a golfers league. In 1980 he married Teddi and settled in East Kildonan. He spent his working career with the Manitoba Liquor Control, working in various departments, retiring in February 2004 as a Licensing Advisor. Retirement grew a little dull after a few months and Jim decided to get a part-time job with Sobeys. He spent five years at the Henderson location, where he thoroughly enjoyed the people he came in contact with. Each winter, Jim looked forward to his time in Palm Springs. Jim was well liked by his neighbours, friends and former co-workers. He will be sadly missed. In keeping with Jim's wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of his life will take place on Saturday, May 14, 2011 at 2:30 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim's memory may be made to a charity of one's choice. Glen Eden Funeral Home 338-7111 www.gleneden-mb.ca
